Hi friend, Welcome to Field Notes — the weekly letter for the chefs and farmers of Farm2Chef and Travel Villa Kitchen. Once a week, never more, we'll bring you one thing from the field worth knowing, one affirmation worth carrying, and one branding tip from Siobhan, whose work developing chefs is the quiet engine behind this community. No noise. Just value — the kind worth forwarding to a friend. From the fieldOn Saturday, October 31, Harlem River Farms leads The Greening of Third Ward & Beyond at Emancipation Park — and the Farm2Chef demo board has chef demo slots open this season. Here's how it works: a farmer's produce goes on the board, a chef claims the demo and cooks it live in front of the neighborhood, and the farm's name travels with every plate. Chefs — the board is where the stages are. Farmers — the board is where the chefs are looking. Take a look before the 31st. A note to carry with youMy success doesn't rise alone — it rises with the farmers, the growers, the chefs beside me. I share credit, I share contacts, I share the good word about my people. A community that lifts each other never goes hungry. Today, I lift somebody, and I let myself be lifted too. Siobhan's branding cornerWith Siobhan C. Skerritt, co-founder of VK Capital Ventures. This week: know your type. In her guide Your Personality Is Your Supply Chain Strategy, Siobhan names four operating styles she sees in farm-to-table chefs. The Architect builds a system for everything — and farm partners love the predictability. The Storyteller knows every farmer by name and sells through narrative. The Curator will drive two hours for the right heritage pork. The Catalyst cooks to change the food system itself. Most of us run on one primary type with a second close behind — and her point is that your type isn't a box. It's a set of strengths to lean on, and gaps to build systems over. Because a brand, in her framing, is the answer to one question: "What can I count on from you?" More from Siobhan at siobhanslifework.com.
